Every piece of lumber and every drop of paint that forms a Seats of Consciousness product comes from local companies from which we rescue materials they would normally throw away.

This includes lumber from wood pallets (which make up 50 percent of all hardwood harvested in the United States), usually thrown out after just two or three uses as cushioning for goods in transit. This also includes house paint, which we pick up in bulk from our partners.

Businesses like Karas & Karas Glass Co., The Home Depot, and Sherman Williams love the partnership, because it saves them money on trash collection fees. We love the partnership because it yields a free, abundant source of material for our furniture. Our mission is to conserve environmental resources without sacrificing our high standards for quality. It’s a win-win for all parties, while also epitomizing Mayor Thomas Menino’s Sustainable Boston Initiative.
